Among the oldest forms of social injustice in the world, gender
inequality has been around the scene for quite a while. From very early on, men
or the male gender was considered to be  superior in most  societies. However, it didn’t stop there.
Today this kind of thinking is still in the public domain and there soon ensued
a systematic and open manifestation of such discrimination.

Gender-related issues have become a global concern and
require to be curbed to promote equality which in turn yields peace and
togetherness. Gender inequality is the situation where human beings are treated
party or wholly unequally due to their gender. Typically gender inequality
stems up for the different gender roles within our social setups. Gender
inequality mainly arises from distinctions that are socially contrasted. There
are many different  organizations that focus
on assigning women and men’s different positions, behaviors and roles. Gender
inequality not only promotes growth but also leads to lower literacy levels
among women, poverty, unequal chances in the workplace. Moreover, there are
many positions in which women are not well represented such as politics and
economics.

In addition, discrimination based on gender has become more prominent
in the world most of the incidences are experienced in the workplace. In today’s
worplace, the human resource practices do enact harmful gender inequalities
through policies, and decision-making processes. They are trying to make the
workplace better for everyone no matter the gender or your racial background.
These policies affect things such as hiring,  people’s pay,  their promotion and how they are trained
between that of men and women. These policies promote the notion that women and
men are not equal, and that they don’t have the same capabilities. The unequal
treatment of people is due to the socially constructed norms and myths has
affected our society as well as workplace operations.

In terms of pay, gender inequality and sex discrimination
arises where every dollar earned by a man, a woman earns less by 33 cents on
the same job. Gender discriminatory pay sprouts from structural imbalances
aligned to gender segregation by departments, networks, and job ladders.
Overrepresentation of the female gender on some sections makes that sector a
lower status area. Even though there have been many advancements made by
international bodies to eliminate gender discrimination within the workplace, these
efforts have not been as successful. From early on our society has painted a
picture of  women as the weaker gender,
the one that has to stay home and take care of the children. As a child is
born, his/her life is directed from the colors to ascribe to, how to behave as
one belonging to a certain gender and the roles to play. The traditional
mentalities still evolve within modern workplaces despite women making strides
in attaining equal qualifications.

Gender roles played by women such as child and familycare, may
imposes women to take long leaves from work as well as leave work before
official working time is done. However, coorporations and organizations prefer
their employees to work overtime to complete and meet the targets that they
have in mind. Which in turn, workers to put in long working hours which is
easier for the men that it would be for a women in the employees mindset. The
excessive commitment required by employers is the key cause of the unending
gender inequality in employment.

Majority of workplace, its structures and patterns of
interactions mostly favors men. The psychologically and socially inbuilt
strength that men are have, makes them up to bethe leading gender. Society
perceives women as the feeble gender and that has to be subordinate to men even
in the workplace. Moreover, people perceive females to lack in leadership
skills making them get lower paying jobs. On the other hand, a large population
of women have a low educational qualification, due to them not being able to
access a higher educationThis htem leaves to them having to access low-paying
jobs in the service industry. Moreover, the dire need to provide for their
children places them at the disadvantaged end of the employers who use cheap
labor and low corporate social responsibility to maximize their sales and
profit.

In addition, an organization’s corporate culture affect the
equity and equality of employees. Some places create a hostile culture in which
only the males can survive intimidating the women. The non-linear career paths
same to women due to maternity leaves and other non-payable needs to leave requires
flexibility in hiring agencies. Such characteristics  identical to women have been used to deny the females
authority, managerial or supervisory positions.

Gender inequality has detrimental effects on society to the
economy and human development. A favorable climate for diversity sets in with
fair treatment of every person regardless of the socially perceived roles based
on one’s gender. Equality in the workplace is essential to prevent the
occurrence of abuse such as sexual harassment, underpayment, as well as  bribery. Moreover, strict sets of rules that
uphold gender equality in an organization especially in human resources should
be mandatory.

Offering high education opportunities and involving women in
politics and social activities would also curb gender inequality among our
society. The government should also see to provide scholarships to women as
well as to increase their employment and establish social protection programs..
The non-government organizations should also seek to educate the society on the
effects of gender inequality and how to contribute to make society safer for
females to strive, currently, the young generation has a different view
regarding careers and their meanings. Most of our generation demands equality
at all spheres of their lives be it be personal or professional, and most
believe that healthy work life is key to achieving happiness. The challenge is
to address gender equality in all aspects, for instance, politics, business, and
education as it’s the only way we can shape the future generation and ensure
success regardless of one’s gender

The struggle for gender equality is certainly the best way
to restore parity as pertains to gender in the society. Different societies
might practice different cultures, but what is for sure is that there is always
bound to be a bargaining ground for everything, including the sociology of the
setup itself. Gender inequality, having been there for ages, has only managed
to get this far as a result of the vested interests and imbalanced attention
rendered by the so-called gender and social activists in general. It is good to
note however, that there have been tremendous gains made by all the key
players, to ensure that the gap has been greatly reduced. There is still more
to be done, especially within community setups, to continue with the efforts to
ensure gender equality.
